After three decades of theme weeks and millions of votes, America has pared down the Top 24 to just 12 contenders to vie for the title of American Idol

1. David Cook

2. David Archuleta

3. Jason Castro

4. Brooke White

5. Syesha Mercado

6. David Hernandez

7. Michael Johns

8. Ramiele Malubay

9. Carly Smithson

10. Amanda Overmyer

11. Kristy Lee Cook

12. Chikeze

But we also said good-bye to four singers.

First to go was Kady Malloy, who expected to go home last week after a mediocre performance. Unfortunately, she didn't improve this week and Kady sang her last song as an American Idol contestant.

Next we said goodbye to Luke Menard. The Hoosier only had one decent performance during the semifinals and choosing a Wham song this week didn't win him any points with most of those who survived the '80s bubble gum rock the first time.

Seeing Asia'h Epperson go was a bit of a shock for me. I think she has a beautiful voice, but she has struggled a little the last two weeks. Of the four going home tonight, Asia'h is the one I'll miss most.

Lastly, we finally send Danny Noriega on his way. For me, this one has been a long time coming. I actually would have been upset if he made it to the next level. Unfortunately, his departure means we have to hear "Tainted Love" again.

The hour lead off with an encore performance from last year's runner up Blake Lewis, who hasn't given up his beat boxing.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

What do you think America, did we get the finalists right?

In the end, I got 10 out of the 12 in my predictions for the Top 12.

This year's American Idol stinks! Too much good talent is overlooked for mediocrity, and the tone was set in Hollywood Week. This is the first season I could care less who wins, because to me, the winner was picked long ago. It is clear Idol is pushing this year for a Pop star, and is squeezing out the R&B-tinged singers. Epperson and Archuletta are the epitome of what Idol stands for, not the likes of highly-trained, even professional singers such as Smithson, Johns, and Mercado. I am truly heart-broken at the path my favorite show has taken this year, and have no interest in watching it at all this season.

Disappointed Idolhead

Epperson was kicked off last night.

I always thought it pushed for a pop start and I don't think they've made secret of that desire.

Who was it that you liked?

Ok, so check it out, america worked it out, did their thing.

Ally McBeal Crush (my most obscure nickname to date)- needed to go two weeks ago

Flaming Lightbulb, while a good singer was WAY too annoying to stay around.

Crosseyed Stepford Wife - yeah, she was boring, Simon was right on the money with her

and finally:

My Dad Died and I Feel Like Singing- It's not for me to judge, but, it really did seem like she used that whole thing to her advantage, plus her performance style was irritating.

People I really like:

Bride of Chucky: Just cause she makes me smile every time she performs. ALOT of style that one has

Goo Goo Doll I didn't care for at first but now he had me at "hello" and is growing on me.

INXS has a good voice, it's nice to see singers who aren't wusses.

I can't decide on a nickname for dreadlock boy, he's either hippie travolta or House's boss but he gets high marks for singing "hallelujah"

I don't care much for Chikeze, I mean, he's a good R&B singer, but, so what? mostly I'd just like to point out that he's a bigger version of Gary Coleman, and thus he is called Diff'rent Strokes

Love your nicknames, but you lost me with a few this week. Ally McBeal Crush and Flaming Lightbulb?

The one just reminds me of someone Ally McBeal might have dated, cute and very "regular guy"

the other had the lightbulb hairdo and was (still is) well, flaming. "but some people weren't liking it..." "TMTH!" FLA-MING -not that there's anything wrong with it, it's just his most prominent feature.

I think Chikeze is cheezy. Luke did make a poor song choice, but he could not hit a wrong note, and he was different. I would have liked to have seen more of him.

I don't know that we got to see enough of Luke for me to be invested in him (other than he's from my hometown). We didn't see him during the auditions and only caught a glimpse of him at Hollywood.

From the three songs he did during the semifinals I was less than impressed, but song choice plays a lot into it.

The only quasi suprise for me was Amanda Overmeyer, while her last performance may have saved her, she was just awful to hear, look at and has about as much rhythm as a monkey having an epileptic seizure!! (no disrespect to monley or anyone with epilepsy intended).

I hate myself for loving you could be sung well by almost any drunken fool in any Karoke bar in the world!! She is limited vocally, artistically, visually, and in just about every other way shape or form. Asia'h should have stayed but paid the price for Amanda doing well on a BS song.

As for Danny Noriega, good effin riddance!!!!That bobble head doll overly effeminate poseur had to go!!! I was throwing things at my TV every time he tried to sing, it was painful and brought back the croaking of Sanjaya to mind. Thank god votefortheworst.com didnt get him through like ponyhawk bog/girl heshe whatever!!!

We did find out, that young, pretty, blonde, and chesty was not going to cut it for Kady and Luke should have known that singing Wham was going to be the kiss of death!!! WIth all the songs of the 80's you'ld think someone would pick something killer, fun, or even one of the 80's hair bands.

Sorry but this years hopefulls have a lot of work to do because it seems like while their is polish, they are all boring and have no personality whatsoever. THey need to shake the show up and have a duets week or something!!!

My husband thought Amanda's performance sounded like something you'd hear in a bar too.

Because American Idol drags on so long, it does get a little boring and I think they are seeing a decline in their ratings because of this. I'm not sure what I'd offer to shake things up. Duets might be interesting, but hard to judge them individually.

There might be a reason Amanda sounds like a bar singer - she IS one. She even looks down when she sings like she is ON a bar singing to the customers. She will suffer like Ryan Starr did. She refuses to expand her range. I think she could do well if she would stop being "little Johnny One Note"

She may be this year's Daughtry, or Taylor Hicks, or if Daughtry and Taylor Hicks and Chucky had a baby who could sing...

Asia'h should've been in the Top 12 . . . I think her predictable song choice the night before (Whitney Houston) killed her, but at the same time give her some credit, it was a smart move to choose something upbeat to start off the night. First spot can be tough to overcome. Danny added a lot of interest to the show with his quirky personality. He is who he is and I for one, will miss him. I agree Luke and Kady did not measure up, although both are definitely talented. Overall, an interesting Top 12 . . . and I'm still hooked.

THE TOP FIVE FINALIST LOOK ALMOST SET IN STONE THUS FAR . THEY MUST HAVE A FLEXIBILITY
TO ADAPT TO DIFFERENT STYLES AND GENRES OF MUSIC USING THEIR VOCAL RANGE , AND OF
COURSE WHICH IDOLS WOULD FIT INTO THIS MOLD BUT THE PROS OR EXPERIENCED SINGERS .
DAVID ARCHULETA HAS GREAT VOCALS BUT UNLESS HE GETS SOME HELP TO LOOSEN UP AND BE FLEXIBLE , HIS EXPERIENCED COMPETITION IS WAITING TO DEVOUR HIM . TOP FIVE AS I SEE THEM : CARLY SMITHSON , MICHAEL JOHNS , SYESHA MERCADO , DAVID COOK , AND DAVID ' S
PLACEMENT DEPENDING ON HIS ADVISOR AND HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with anyone that said that Amanda Overmeyer is not a good singer. She murders every song that she sings and she has absolutely no talent. The only reason that she stays on is that the "American Public" is tone deaf. She actually has no personality either. If she continues on another week then I am going to ban American Idol from being seen on my t.v. I am so disgusted that someone as talented as A'siah Epperson had to be sent home and that no talent Bride of Chucky got to stay!

    Ok,

    counterpoint:

On Idol, soul/R&B singers like A'siah are a dime a dozen; I really don't see a market out there for her, honestly. We have Alicia Keyes, We Have Christina Aguilera, We have Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Rhianna...why do we need A'siah who does the same thing only not as well and in not as interesting a manner?

Now, there's NOTHING out there like Bride of Chucky these days, and I personally (plus the rest of the country seems to back me on this one) think she does her niche quite well. I'm very entertained by her. I don't think she's at all versatile, and she probably has very little chance of winning, but she's really likeable and I think there's a market for her.

I'm thinking Joan Jett was about the most recent artist I could compare her to. Maybe Chrissy Hynde (in terms of song style not voice), I'm thinking bands Like Quarterflash and Heart.

the rocker chick of late has been....Who? Gwen Stefani back in the No Doubt days; Alanis Morissette from Jagged Little Pill, but not after...Pink maybe? Maaaaybe Kelly Clarkson?

Top 40 Female artists lately are either folky emo or R&B, I say BofC is unique and fresh sounding.
