He made it through Paulagate 2008, but is American Idol's Jason Castro ready to call it quits? EW's Jessica Shaw was on the scene as the Idols rehearsed for Neil Diamond week (read her "Why Song Selection Matters" feature in the issue out Friday) and spoke with Castro on Monday afternoon: "I'll get around to practicing," he promised her, after noting that his brother and a friend had visited over the weekend and that his Saturday meeting with Diamond had gone "really bad" because he didn't yet know his songs. "What happens happens. I'll sing and if people like it, they like it. And if they don't, they don't. I'm kind of ready to go home."
More proof, as if the lackluster performances aren't enough, that Jason isn't even trying. Is anybody else wondering why Jason even bothered to audition if he wasn't in it to win?
I doubt he really knew what life would be like. He probably misses his normal life. You figure a lot of stuff in his life has changed, he probably misses his family and friends, and more than likely didn't have a really good concept of what he was getting himself into.
I'm sure that they all miss family and friends. Brooke even missed her own sister's wedding. And David Cook has a brother terminally ill.
I'm sure Jason didn't have a good concept of what he was getting himself into, he doesn't seem to have a lot of awareness.
This would not be happening if they gave the judges half the vote after Hollywood. Simon and Randy have seen saying he is not trying for weeks now.
I'm all for giving the judges more power, especially after Sanjaya last year and Jason this year.
It sucks that he's still there and someone really talented like Carly isn't.
I know what you mean. The fact that he's still around when he's not even trying is pissing me off.
I think we should oblige him. If we can't ditch David Archuleta this week, let's at least get rid of Jason Castro.
I'd be happy to oblige him. If only we could stop those voting for him.
Everything about Jason was hilarious last night. His packages, his songs, Ryan's interviews, responses to the judges and the intentional lyrics forgetting. He wants to get voted off, he just doesn't want to be there.
I'm almost hoping that he stays on for another week, so I can see what he does.

I'm not sure I could handle it. Last night's train wreck (and I'm being nice) was really hard to watch. This is worse than last year's Sanjaya fiasco.
Jason last night was the worst I've ever seen in six seasons of Idol, but unlike Sanjaya, he's actually had some good performances.
Oh, I agree that Sanjaya never had a good performance. It's only worse because Jason really doesn't appear to be trying. It's proven that he has some potential, but it's like he doesn't even care. And yet he's made it to the Top 4.
Jason Castro should have been gone weeks ago. If they would limit voting to people that are over 18 years old he would have been gone long ago, and spared us the frustration of watching someone that really doesn't want to be there. Carly truly got a raw deal from the judges and their comments and should still be there belting out her music.
And how do you propose limiting the voting age to 18 and over? In this day and age, your average 3 year old has a cell phone and knows how to use it.

If changing the voting rules could spare us this frustration, I'm all for change!
