Did America get it right?
Total Votes: 930
So long Jason!
As a relief to much of America (or at least this American), the dreadlocked Jason Castro was finally given the boot as American Idol dwindles its numbers to three.
I don't know if people vote more when the field narrows or if the record-setting nearly 51 million votes was a testament to how many people really wanted Jason off the show, especially when Ryan added how close the Top 3's numbers were - with in a million of each other.
I, for one, am glad that Jason's time is up. I would have been sorely disappointed if he'd made it to the next round.
And I'm really not surprised to find Syesha Mercado landing in the jeopardy seat. I think David Archuleta deserved to be there, but given his standing with the judges I never really questioned his safety.
As for the rest of the show, did anyone else think that the opening number "Reelin' in the Years" reminded you of those Brady Bunch episodes where the kids tried their hand at a singing career?
On the other hand, the Beetle's Cirque de Soleil LOVE show looked awesome. I want to make a trip to Vegas just to see it now. And I have to admit that the Fab 4 looked pretty good after their makeovers, especially David Archuleta - he actually looked like he wasn't 12.
In the caller questions, we saw David Cook get hooked up, had Jason admit that his "brain is dead" (big surprise there) and learned that Simon not only wants to be knighted but that he's also willing to be the next James Bond.
Performances by Maroon 5 and Bo Bice rounded out the evening.
Is there anyone out there that didn't think America got it right this time?

...had Jason admit that his "brain is dead" (big surprise there)
LOL. Yah I thought that was really hilarious. Well at least he's self aware!!
I actually like Jason and his style. I read or heard somewhere that he really wanted to go and even Ryan said something to the effect that he (Jason) looked relieved. It was extremely apparent when he sang at the end of the show. Jason seemed more enthusiastic than he has ever had during any time on the show. Oh well.
For me, I'm not in love with Archuleta. It's hard for me to see him being marketable other than having a good voice. He can out-sing Jason but there seems to be something about jason that is marketable - and we know that good looks can more than make up for an average voice. The same with Cook who I think has the greatest upside of the remaining three. Just my opinion. I think Archuleta could end up like Taylor Hicks.
I agree with you on both points. Even if David Archuleta wins David Cook will be the bigger star and I did like Jason in the beginning.
As good of a talent as he is, David A. is a manufactured talent from birth and is about exciting as day old oatmeal. I feel he has real potential as a legitimate recording/performance artist, not a pop star. Not that the two are mutually exclusive.
I think Archuleta could end up like Taylor Hicks.
I think he could go the Josh Groban route.
That guy's demographic is grandma and anybody else who needs inspiration.
He could be HUGE if he went christian contemporary.
he's such a nice boy...
Say what you want about Idol and its voting results/trends....but slackers never prosper. While people love to hate Simon Cowell, they respect his opinions as a legitimate star maker. He showed real disappointment on Tuesday night, and the voters took it to heart.
I was so happy Jason got the boot. He did seem like he was happy and relieved to go. He sang a lot better last night than he did Tuesday.
I really think it was he was ready to go. He admitted he was in over his head, so may be he was just really relieved to be going home.
Do you think that was because he was happy to go or because he purposely sabatoged himself Tuesday?
I think House's boss/ hippe travolta was tired of trying to conform to pop and sing stupid songs.
His response to simon's question "what were you thinking?" said it all "I was thinking BOB! (Marley)" as in "I get to sing a Bob Marley song in front of millions of people"
Anyway, he knows now fer sure that pop idolatry isn't his thing. He's got a chance at success going the Jack Johnson route if he's any good as a songwriter.
-coming soon to a coffee house near you...
Yes!!!
Now, if we can somehow get the teeny-boppers to stop voting for Archuleta...I have a strong feeling David A. will win it all, just because he seems unstoppable right now. Despite singing the same bland song (with different lyrics) week after week after week, the judges and voters seem to think he walks on water. If I had to sit through an entire concert of his crooning I'm pretty sure my ears would bleed.
Bo Bice sounded awesome......and yes, very glad to see Jason (whatever, dude) finally go home. What up with all those tears Sayesha......going all political and telling us about how we may have the 1st woman or black man as President......guess she's a dem, eh? I say she goes next on the basis of that remark alone.
I got curious about that political remark, too... I mean I know it's got something to do with change -- and "change" is in her song --- but politics doesn't really have anything to do with AI.
Bo Bice was awesome last night. I really liked him when he was on AI. He and Carrie were my favorites.
I think Syesha was just emotional in general the other night. I didn't think too much about her political remark. I don't think it will impact the vote because I think most young people are Democrats these days. I think she will go next, but only because both Davids are fan favorites, not because of her political remarks.
I like Jason. But it really looked like he wanted to go. And being number 4 will not exactly wipe him off the music industry.. it may just be the beginning for him. So it's not a sad ending.
Besides, AI is still a singing competition, and when you compare Jason's style to the powerful vocals of the top 3, it's pretty obvious that he's not gonna be the winner.
I love Jason - his singing and his personality. I hated to see him go, but it was time - he admits he was over his head. He's only been singing for a couple of years - and not much at that. I cannot wait to buy his CDs - I will be listening to them all of the time. I wouldn't purchase the CDs of any other person appearing on Idol - but that's just my taste in music.
Bo Brice? ;)
Jason had long worn out his welcome. I sincerely hope David Cook wins... he is in another league compared to the rest of the contestants!
I don't agree that Jason Castro was the one who "least deserved to be there". From what I've gathered, the show's original intent was to find undiscovered original talent. Jason definitely has that! The remaining 3, and most of those who were chosen to begin with, were already accomplished performers. I think it's easier to keep up with the grind if one knows a lot of songs already. Personally, I loved his version of "I Shot the Sheriff", and I am old enough to remember the original releases by both Bob Marley and Eric Clapton. (Okay, his voice was a little strained, but what he did with it was great). I never watched a "reality" show until my housemate got me interested in AI last season. I like the "talent show" aspect of it, but there's a lot of meanness in the judges and fan's comments that I can't stomach. I am also not naive enough to imagine that the show isn't "fixed" in all kinds of ways, including the band and the sound mixing. I wonder how many people watch the show to see someone fail? I may go back to reading a book on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
I loved Jason castro's voice from the very beginning, he was unique, smooth, sultry and pleasant to listen to, Robin Thicke and Sade have voices in the same style. If he stays away from the Marley type material and goes in the direction of Robin he would have hit after hit.
David Cook is very creative and Syesha has excellent stage presence, David A. seems too rehearsed sort of like a "Stepford Wife".
I worry about David Archuleta. I wonder what Daddy Dearest is going to do if Sonny doesn't make it all the way? I understand how parents might live out their fantasies through their children, but David's dad is kind of scary if the media can be believed.
I do feel a little bad for Archuleta
vacelts---I feel sorry for him too....but I hope Archuleta doesn't win due to some kinda sick voter sympahty stemming from fear of his crazed father.
After tonight's performances, it's even more clear to me that Archuleta is a one trick pony. When he tried to step out side his normal boring Broadway Musical style (that he does every...single...week...) he fell flat on his face. His 2nd song tonight was absolutely horrible. Unfortunately, he has the teeny-bopper vote so there's no way he goes home.
I really can't stand reading an article that is biased by the writer when it's supposed to be "news". Jason Castro had a HUGE fanbase and made it that far because of it....so if you could, try to stick to the "news" and not be a Simon....the world only needs one of him.
"News"flash: Jason is gone from the show.
Opinion: It was overdue. He had been resting on his laurels and (admittedly) not really trying for several weeks.
More opinion: Good riddance.
