Who is the bad guy?

Papa Petrelli is alive, although bedridden, and guess who is helping him -- Maury Parkman (left)
On tonight's "Angels and Monsters," Heroes dropped a bombshell. The yet unseen patriarch of the Petrelli family – long thought dead by his own hand – was show still alive and running his own "company." And guess what this company's logo is?
**** The following might contain spoilers ****
Here's what we know: Arthur Petrelli (Robert Forster) is alive, or at least for now hanging in there. He is bed ridden.
Here's how I see it: Arthur had a parting of ways with The Company, probably over the issue of giving people powers. Seeing Arthur as a threat, Angela – or another member of The Company – killed (or at least thought they killed) him, making it look like suicide. But Arthur didn't die – not sure if that a result of his power (which is what?) or just luck.
I think for the last two years Papa Petrelli has been hiding away regaining his strength and forming a plan of vengeance and/or domination. Given what he looks like now, he must have been in really bad shape.
So now Arthur is back in the game with his own company – Pinehearst – and the company's logo is two Godsend symbols intertwined. Given that he's the guy that Daphne has been working for, I'd say that the formula – which can be used to give ordinary people power – is a major part of his plan.
But what exactly is his end game? An army of people with abilities? Why?
We also know that he's been recruiting his oldest son Nathan through the imaginary Linderman. It turns out Linderman is not so much a figment of Nathan's imagination as the work of Maury Parkman.
Major questions here. How did Maury come to work for Arthur? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time we saw Maury he was in the hands of The Company and was trapped in his own mind by his son Matt. How did he escape? Has Maury always sided with Arthur? If not, what did Arthur do to win him over?
Furthermore, I want to know why Daddy is working so hard to win over Nathan? As we learned tonight, Nathan's power is synthetic. Wouldn't the powers of Peter be more useful to Daddy? Or is it the synthetic power that Arthur needs? Although it's never made clear tonight whether Peter and/or Sylar's powers are natural or synthetic, I got the feeling that at least one of them was born with their power.
The next question would be is Arthur Peter and/or Sylar's dad? Maybe Pete's not his, that's why he didn't try to recruit him. Speaking of which, why are they recruiting certain people? Is it because of their family connections or their abilities?
When Daphne was requested to recruit, Maury (as Linderman) gave her files for Knox and Mohinder and she falters calling them "pretty nasty people." It seems Mohinder is moving up on the badass list, maybe it has something to do with the fact that he spent the entire episode collecting people (Maya included) and storing them cocoon-like on his wall.
Daphne recruits Knox, who then kidnaps Adam for Pinehearst. And someone from Pinehearst had already talked to Stephen Canfield (Andre Royo). Plus now we know how Daphne and Matt (another family connection) meet since he's on her recruit list.
Or is Pinehearst just looking for easily swayed people?
Yes I'm thinking of the Japanese Nazis, as Adam called them. "We are the worst heroes ever?" Yes they are.
First they – or rather Hiro despite Ando's protests – lost Kaito's half of the formula to Daphne. Then they got caught by the Haitian while trying to steal the second half and tonight they unbury Adam only to lose him moments later in a "cantina" after being distracted by a Star Wars reference.
Then Hiro kills Ando in an effort to prove he's bad ass enough to join Daphne and Knox. I don't for one minute believe Ando's dead. It's probably another Scooby plan of Hiro's. I just haven't figured out to what end.
While I'm pretty sure that Nathan isn't entirely buying the "dead mobster telling me he's a messenger from God," I think it's going to be Angela herself that pushes her son into Arthur's waiting arms.
After confirming that The Company did give the Tracy – and her sisters Niki and Barbara – their powers and revealing to Nathan that Daddy wanted his son to have powers even if they were synthetic, Angela tried to sound repentant. But it's kind of hard to see past the fact that she has Peter subdued in another room with a medically induced coma. Now that's a mother's love for you.
And Peter almost got a chance to pay her back for all her motherly kindness with a little slice to the head, but brother Sylar stopped him. It seems that Angela has at least one obedient child. And she's going to need it now that she knows Arthur's back thanks to that little premonition.
Meanwhile we were introduced to two new heroes -- I mean villains -- I mean people with powers – Stephen Canfield and Eric Doyle (David H. Lawrence).
Claire, in all her infinite teenage wisdom, decided to go hunting for escapees solo. She found Stephen. But so did HRG and Sylar.
Stephen can create vortexes and accidently killed his neighbor over a lawn mower dispute before being hauled away to Level 5 two years ago. Now that he escaped all he wanted to do was reconnect with his family.
Claire just wants to help him, HRG just wants to use him to kill Sylar and Sylar just wants to play father and daughter off each other. In the end Stephen sends himself into a vortex.
In the meantime, Meredith and Sandra discover that Claire is missing and start trolling through the Primatech files looking for clues. But when Meredith spots Eric she calls him a horrible man. It seemed like she had some history with him or at least knew something she wasn't telling.
But if she knew he was a puppet master why would she go there? And how are Claire and Sandra going to end up there next week?
I think this episode was pretty good. I hope it was critical to forming this season. Let's hope I was right and it wasn't just another tangent.
What did you think of the episode? Did you know it was Arthur behind it all? Who are you cheering for – Angela or Arthur?

I'm with you in that I have no idea how they're going to explain Maury's comeback. But I feel like Angela is going to end up on the side of good in some way or another. She's the type that thinks she's mother to the world, always trying to fix it with a little bit of 'tough love' so to speak. I'm betting that Papa Petrelli is working from revenge. For whatever reason (betting it has to do with Sylar in some way, just a speculation) he was cut off from the company years ago and preumed dead; he want's to control the formula and maybe give powers to those he feels are worthy. He's the one leading the faction thats taken over in the future (the one that claire and matt and almost everyone else is apart of) and his goal is to wipe out those who aren't good enough for him. Just a little speculative rant.

I thought they were taking orders from President Nathan? Of course, with Arthur trying to bring Nathan to his side ala Lindermann, perhaps Arthur is trying to get him to lead after he passes on?
Anyone want to guess what Arthur's power is?
My guess is some form of telepathy. That would explain how Maury was set free from his mental prison (of course maybe he just figured his own way out). It also seemed to me that Angela didn't have a premonition so much as a dream conversation that seems to have resulted in her being trapped in he own body unable to move.
My second guess would be that he is somehow able to use others powers against them.
Is it just me or are they taking the fast pace thing a little too far? How does Hiro go from leaving the bar to look for Adam to being back in it only to kill Ando and join his nemesis? That was a huge jump to me that I didn't get.
I'd have to disagree on the claire story line with you vacelts. I think they are using her well. she wants to stop the bad guys...just who is that? she isn't so sure anymore. And the use of sylar as the one who saved her and pits father against daughter... pretty cool. I can likely do without the pupper master scenes next week. looks like very forced drama. (kind of like the mountain lion in 24, if you watched that)
I mainly hope the bring peter back into the fold a little more... not sure I like him as all messed in the head.

Nah it made sense to me - to a degree. They lost Adam, went back to the bar and Neme...err Daphne shows up. Since she is working for the group that has taken the formula Hiro figures his best chance to get the formula back is to join them, so he kills Ando. Now, killing Ando does jump the track as I just don't see him doing it all out of the blue to join this group dispite the seed of mistrust between them. So, my guess is that he has somehow faked Ando's death. I'm also guessing that Ando is going to be pissed next time we see him since he wasn't in on this plan. This may also tie into future Hiro's "death" (either a) Ando is now causing the fake death or b) this sets the path that leads to it or at least appears to).

I don't know about being forced drama but I imagine it is going to resolve the tension between Claire's real mother and adopted mother as to who she loves more.
I hate the Mohinder story line, why is he so gross now? I was hoping that he would get a power and be good, like he was in the first two seasons, now he is becoming a mad scientist. I don't know that that is what his father would have wanted.
As for Hiro, I don't think that Ando is dead, remember he can back up time, I think he did that to get "in" but will go back and undue the murder. Besides we didn't see him dead and buried, only bleeding. Perhaps they take him and inject him with a power, leading to the scene we saw where Ando kills Hiro.
I like the Claire storyline, clearly she is going to be sucked into Pinehurst and will be working against her Grandmother, but for her Grandfather. Not sure about the puppet master though, I hope next weeks episode is as good as this weeks.
-misplaced post-
i accidently posted my post in a reply instead of a new comment. it was not in regard to your posting, sorry for the confusion
I agree about Ando and Hiro. Remember, in the future Ando "kills" Hiro, so I don't think he's dead, dead.
I think Arthur Petrelli is just as bad or evil as Angela. It seems like Arthur is gathering the villains on his side. Angela has Syler, who, as they seem to be leading us to think, isn't a villain any more, but I feel a plot twist coming. I think everyone who started out as a "hero" will turn into a villain and vice versa.
I really hate what they did to Mohinder too, by the way.
I don't think Hiro changed the future where Ando kills him, because otherwise, why make a production out of showing us in the first place, do you know what I mean?
And, I smell and SERIOUS plot twist coming up regarding the role reversals with the heros/villains. So, I don't think it will be "black and white".

Mohinder is walking the line of man/monster (Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde). At some point he is going to realize what he has become and will have to whether to give up his powers or embrace and be evil.
Another good recap, Vacelts. Just seeded a piece From E suggesting some big show news.
I enjoyed it - I'm wondering if Angela is the Angel which woul make Arthur the Monster.
Just based off the name.
I don't think Ando is really dead; but it will be interesting to see how they fix it.
SOMETHING THAT I JUST REALIZED:
ok so if maury has been controlling the linderman illusion, then how DID Nathan get healed???
was it peter's kiss? did peter have that ability and not know it?
*discuss*
was it peter's kiss?
First thought: Peter kissed Nathan?
Second thought: Peter kissed Nathan and none of the slash-ficer's heads exploded?
Third thought: Now that would be veering close to Superman II territory, and not in a badass, Terrance Stamp type of way.
I think that Nathan healed himself.... Perhaps a residue from receiving Adam's blood...
As for Pappa Petrelli's power, it may be something like Peter's? I seem to remember someone referring to Peter as 'another one of those', or something like that. It suggests in any case there is someone/some people with the same/similar power...
The one thing that does not fit (I read it on another site) is how Nathan saw Linderman while Maury was still locked up in Level 5. He started seeing Linderman before Elle's outburst...

They could have been refering to Sylar--his power is basically Peter's with added addiction problems and gross-out factor.
It was invisible dude is season one. (clyde?/) there are likely others with peter's exact power. there is claire and adam, they got the same thing going on...
however, I doubt that we will actually see one because peter's storyline is already pretty intense. not sure if the show could handle two absorbers (three if you count sylar)
I forgot to mention that I think there is more to Nathan's power than it seems. Maybe he has a power that did not manifest and they injected him with the formula that gave him flight. It is possible that there is another power inside him... I saw a spoiler saying that there is a link between all the brother's abilities...
For the overall question about Arthur and Angela--I'm going to go outside of the box and say neither are going to be heroes or villains, but it's possible that the two will become seperate villain forces, and that some will stay with their group or switch to the other, and that others will be completely seperate from the two groups and tries to stop them both.
As for the thing with Hiro...I'm thinking either he actually killed Ando (with the darker future self, and him burying Adam alive, there is potential for darkness in him), they planned it and Ando's not dead, or Hiro killed Ando, and would later go back in time to save Ando.
Arthur's powers have to be artificial. I say this due to the on-line comic they did about when he first met Linderman. It was clear that Arthur had no clue about people with powers, though it is possible that his own developed later.
I actually think it would be cool to find out that Arthur does not have any power at all. It would make Arthur the original HRG. The normal guy that everyone is scared of because he's just that damn good. In the comic I referenced, Arthur was the one that first taught Linderman the need to make hard choices for the greater good. That sometimes evil needs to be done to improve life for the most people.
I agree that Arthur's power(s) are synthetic. it would explain why Nathan wasn't born with any powers and fits in with all of the comic-based lore that a lot of people haven't read. Arthur was the one who taught the others to try and control the world (for it's own good of course). It makes sense that the one who wasn't born with powers ended up with a superiority complex (always trying to take the top spot because he had to work for it) and would be hurt the most by the betreyal of The Company, leading him to his path of revenge (speculation). It would also explain why he was so upset that Nathan had no abilities. Hiro will never go dark, his purpose in the show is to always be the soul of a true hero (even if he doesn't always go about things in the best way). Claire is impulsive and all of her problems stem from that, so she does whatever seems good at the time. I think Sylar will eventually turn into the only solid heroic force. He loathes everyone but it seems that he has focused his power of understanding on himself and he will take control of himself and become a leader.
The suggestion made (by Angela) in the last episode that Nathan was given his power and could handle it due to his lineage gives me the impression Arthur's power is a 'natural' one. It would mean that in the comic novels Arthur simply had not dicovered his power yet...
... and Ando is not dead. It was a bit of trickery on Hiro's behalf. He can displace himself to all sorts of places without anyone around him noticing...

I just had a thought! Maybe Hiro froze time at at the exact moment before he went to stab Ando and somehow set up a staged death for Ando... in real time no one else in the room would notice... I think Speedster is only immune to freezing when she is already in motion, right?
Just a guess... Either way i think Hiro freezing time has something to do with how Ando comes back or is not dead.
