Loyalties are more than divided on Heroes these days. On "Eris Quod Sum" we saw allegiance cross and double cross. And who is at the center of all the chaos - the Petrellis.
**** The following might contain spoilers ****
Arthur Petrelli was a busy man tonight. First he confirmed some details for fans. Yes, Peter's abilities are gone for good. Arthur takes it all and leaves nothing behind.
And Arthur was in a taking mood this episode. First he "heals" Maya by taking her power. And fans rejoice as Maya leaves hopefully for the last time. But not before she has a very stalker-like goodbye with Mohinder. No way I'd waste words on some guy that put me in a cocoon on the wall!
Meanwhile Mohinder goes to work for Pinehearst to help with the formula. I don't understand what Mohinder needs to do. Don't they already have both halves of the formula?
Next Arthur takes Maury's life. Maury had pledged his loyalty to Arthur in exchange for Matt's safety. But when Arthur's plans for Matt change, Maury protests and gets a broken neck for his troubles. But given what we later find out I have to wonder is Maury really dead? Or was it a show? For who's sake, I'm not sure - maybe Knox.
Next Arthur sends Daphne to kill Matt or so Knox thinks. After playing a little mind trick on Knox, Daphne befriends Matt. But we know that she's still working for Arthur, who warns her that he if she screws up he'll put her back where he found her. Just where did he find her? Did she have powers when he found her? Or did she acquire them later?
In the meantime, father-of-the year is playing musical sons. First he has Peter locked up and wastes the opportunity for father-son bonding with really bad lines like "you're grounded."
But the comatose Angela uses her mad skills and a promise that he's her "favorite" to inspire Sylar to break out of his coma, escape Level 5 and save his little brother. Sylar manages to save Peter from being Mohinder's guinea pig, but gets himself caught.
So instead of running for his life, the powerless Peter decides to return the favor and rescue Sylar. But what he doesn't know is that Arthur tries to win Sylar to his side by convincing him that Angela is the devil incarnate (hmm . . . that didn't take much improvising). Sylar decides to stay with Daddy and sends Peter flying out the window.
Has Sylar really traded allegiances? Was the man who evaded capture so many times in the first two seasons, really so easily taken hostage by Camp Arthur? Did he try to kill Peter or help him escape?
Pete falls at the feet of the blonde duo on their way to Pinehurst to get "fixed." Elle's powers are really out of whack (almost took down their plane) and Claire is still feeling broken, so the pair bond over daddy issues on a cross country flight.
But the appearance of Peter stops Claire in her tracks, while Elle continues into Pinehearst. So who does Claire call for help? Daddy. No not him, the other Daddy.
Nathan and Tracy leave their meet and greet with Meredith and HRG at Mohinder's lair to go to Claire and Peter's aid. Peter gives Nathan the low down on Papa Petrelli. Nathan promises to shut down Pinehearst legally, but then heads out to confront Daddy Dearest. Another son in Arthur's grasp.
Tracy, who has been getting kick backs from Pinehearst, agrees to accompany him. How is her former allegiance to Pinehearst going to pan out?
And while all these alliances are being formed, and broken and double crossed, our wanna be hero Hiro is in Africa arguing with Ando about the hazards of time travel. Apparently Africa is the new place to go when we don't know what to do with your storyline. Or maybe it's just an excuse to flash forward or flash backwards. And backwards is just where it appears Hiro's spirit walk is going to land us in two weeks.

I don't understand what Mohinder needs to do. Don't they already have both halves of the formula?
I'm wondering if there isn't a third part to the formula. Just because we've seen two pieces of paper doesn't mean there isn't secretly a third section cleverly ripped from the middle of the original. That's my guess anyway.
The bucket-o-water thing was great. I'm glad to see Elle back on the show - she had an interesting introduction to the series that sort of wound down as it went. But at what point do Claire and Elle declare that they're now BFFs!!!!!1111oneoneone and start to do each other's hair?
Though I'm not liking where this thing with Daphne is going. And Sylar, for all his strengths as a character, is remarkably weak-minded. Or he's really really good at convincing people that he's following along. A few well-spoken words from someone and he's suddenly their puppy dog. Though I have to wonder how much of it's real, given the heroic thing with Peter's drop?
Plus what of angela's speech that sylar has no idea of his true power (or whatever she said). were those pretty words to just get him to go along? he got out of his comatose state pretty easily...
I think Maury is really dead... it was interesting seeing Claire and Elle bond... Did anyone see how that was helpful to the story besides getting claire to Pinehurst in time to find peter falling out of the window? and likely getting Elle done in by Daddy Petrelli... the Death of Parkman totally faked me out... I don't think Sylar is all on board with daddy and he did spare Peter... I suppose we will see him get his powers back after Mohinder and Daddy start experimenting on him... Pretty uneventful episode overall i think... not really any questions answered from last week were there?
I think we'll just have to see if Linderman reappears, since we know that Maury is behind that illusion. At least Parkman finally used his ability to great effect.
Odd that Arthur didn't take Maury's power and then kill him. I guess Matt is out there if he wants to ever get it but Arthur seems like a power hungry guy.
I wondered about that too. I would have thought he'd have taken his power first - seems like something useful to have.
Then again, why doesn't Arthur just take everyone's powers? Having both Peter and Sylar's powers absorbed would make him basically invincible, so... why not? Too easy for the script writers?
Odd that Arthur didn't take Maury's power and then kill him. I guess Matt is out there if he wants to ever get it but Arthur seems like a power hungry guy.
Well remember that since he absorbed Peter's power he doesn't really need to steal powers anymore. He automatically absorbs them. The only reason he'd steal them is if he didn't want the other person to have them anymore.
thanks eric. forgot that little bit of information...
Which of the smart blondes had the great idea to get on a plane when one of them is a electrical mess? I mean I get the need for the plane drama and the timing of getting to pinehurst....but they are not giving blondes a good name with that one.
Also, Why are the broken? Maybe Elle is going to evolve into pure electricity (kinda like wireless) and maybe Claire's powers are just evolving as well. There is still a lot we don't know about the origin and nature of powers in Heroes world. Genetic yes, but what of manufacutred powers (do they grow?), what the eclipse (will we ever find out that secret?). Does everyone's powers evolve (Matt's has and Claire seems to have...)
I don't think Claire's "broken" in the same way that Elle is. Elle is "broken" in the sense that she can't control her power anymore. Claire thinks she's broken because she can't feel pain anymore.
I'm also not sure if abilities evolve like you're suggesting. Matt just wasn't aware of the extent of his powers at first - he thought his power was just mind-reading, not thought manipulation. Claire's powers have stayed the same since day one - regeneration. She just doesn't feel pain anymore because of what Sylar changed when he can-openered her skull.
This season feels very forced to me. Its like the are rushing to get things out there and then gloss over them.
For example: Maury dies, matt finds out (looks half sad), next scene he'e feeding his turtle all happy. I know they weren't the closest people but a second of grief would be nice. The show tired to be about families but glosses over it now...
Another example is the slyar thing: in coma, gets mommy speech, go saves peter, gets caught, works with daddy after speech (possibly). its just so rushed with very little depth...
I know they weren't the closest people but a second of grief would be nice.
Remember Maury as the boogy man? Who trapped Molly for most of a season? I think that's why Matt didn't mourn his father's death.
The Parkman thing made me snap out, and I was about ready to end my time with the show. Finally got to see him use his power and seconds later hes dead? Then I thought about it.
This allegiances thing has to stop. Pick a side, end it there. The Sylar thing is starting to annoy me as well. All in all, great episode because it made me scream "WTF" two or three times.
Profchaos: The show isn't about "families" its about "a family" -- The Petrellis. Just wait, soon we'll find out everyone is Arthurs son, not just Sylar and the other two.
Also, what the @!$%# is with Claire? She's not broken, when Sylar took her power he SAID "I had to cut your nerve endings." HE took her feeling away.
pretty soon we'll find out that angela got it on with Hiro's Dad and Maury as well, maybe Ando's dad got some too. and then HRG is her cousin, just to mix things up.
we'll find out that angela got it on with Hiro's Dad
I thought we already knew that Angela and Kaito were "an item" back in the day. I think that came out when people started getting those little "you're dead" cutouts of the group photo with the red Symbol drawn on them.
true... so maybe Hiro is her son too...
This allegiances thing has to stop. Pick a side, end it there.
I don't mind the shifting allegiances on the show because I see them every day in real life. In the business world no one is 100% on your side.
What exactly was Kaito's ability anyway?
What exactly was Kaito's ability anyway?
I believe it was shown on a deleted scene during the second season. I can't for the life of me remember what it was, though.
I do, I'll check.
"I don't mind the shifting allegiances on the show because I see them every day in real life. In the business world no one is 100% on your side."
But every other scene? Come on.
But every other scene? Come on.
I dunno. I've seen some people shift allegiances depending on who's in the room.
This show is always a couple episodes away from losing me, and it didn't do itself any favors (in my eyes at least) this week.
I kind of understood the Sylar thing with Angela (he's had parent issues since season 1 if you remember the episode where he went to see his adoptive mom, and he doesn't actually want to be bad) and I don't think he's seriously working with Arthur, since he saved Peter.
Knox instantly became my favorite character on the show when he "killed" Parkman but my friend and I instantly figured out that there was no way that was a real death. Bah. Foiled again.
I'm glad to see Elle back, Claire annoys me more every week. Glad to see Maya gone, but how did Mohinder get the drop on Sylar? That guy used to be unstoppable.
Also, Nathan's going to go "stop" his dad? With what? His unstoppable power of... flight? And does Meredith really have to walk into every scene with the fire in her hand thing?
I'm actually interested to see Knox's back story. I like what we've seen of him so far, and it looked like he felt something like remorse after he "killed" Matt and Daphne.
And does Meredith really have to walk into every scene with the fire in her hand thing?
I noticed that too - every time we see her she's got the palm open. I think she just likes showing off and hoping someone goes "oh noez she has teh fire!"
Though I found it mildly amusing to see Meredith and Tracy facing each other - they're exact opposites (fire and ice), so I wonder if there's something about to happen there. Besides the fact they've both had their time with Nathan.
And does Meredith really have to walk into every scene with the fire in her hand thing?
When she had control of her powers, Elle used to do the same thing. I suppose some folks just like to show off. I suppose if I had a visible power that I could control in detail, I'd be showing off my mad skillz too.
Though I found it mildly amusing to see Meredith and Tracy facing each other - they're exact opposites (fire and ice), so I wonder if there's something about to happen there.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who got that.
I'm actually interested to see Knox's back story.
Done during one of the online comics, actually.
If I remember correctly, he was a gangster in his side of the city, who used his power to gain money and "respect," until the Company found him and captured him.
You're welcome. :)
I don't like the way they have Syler acting. When the show first started, he was the MAN, even though he wasn't a good guy. Now, he's like all wishy-washy and it seems like he'll believe anything anyone tells him. For example, did you notice how easily he accepted the story about what his mother did to him when he was a baby? I couldn't figure out if he really bought it or if he listened to Peter when he said don't believe him. It's obvious as the nose on your face that one or both his parents would say ANYTHING to win him over to their side.
I don't think Peter's powers are gone for good; he'll get them back someway. With Mohinder and the formula, they still have to perfect it and that's why he's experimenting on people. I think Maya will be back.
Clare gets on my nerves too because she's always ready to go out and kick some bad guy ass, but she doesn't know how to fight and she doesn't use her head. I know she's still a child, but come on, she's a hero -- she should be smarter and not make so many stupid mistakes, like when they were with the puppet master and she pulled the stun gun on him. A stun gun???? Come on. And I think she and Elle are going to square off at least one more time before they become friends.
I think Mohinder is going to get Peter's powers back for him with the new formula. They need Mohinder because he did research on it that they haven't, so he's bringing another piece to the puzzle. I guess the other scientists aren't as good as Mohinder?
I think Maya is going to realize that she really has feelings for Mohinder and they will get together again.
I do hope Skylar is playing Arthur because I don't think he means Skylar any good. I don't think his mother does either, but she's the lesser of 2 evils. Do you believe she really tried to drown him when he was a baby? And why is he playing like he's siding with Arthur if he isn't? It doesn't make sense to me because it's not like Skylar needs to play games with him. He's one of the most (with the exception of Arthur) powerful heros in the show: he can read minds, he can regenerate/heal, he can go nuclear, etc., etc.
Well, if I were Skylar and I had the abilities he has, I'd go in there ready to kick some ass and ask questions later, ESPECIALLY if I knew he was the cause of my mother being in a coma. But, you're right, he doesn't really know what Arthur is capable of. Good observation.
You guys are forgetting one key detail about why Sylar might have believed Authur. Angela fed him a woman in the second ep whose ability was to see the history of whatever she touched. With Aurthur extended his hand to Sylar, it was then that Sylar could have used that ability to see the truth about his past. Now that I think about it, I don't think Angela has touched Sylar's skin since he's gained that ability.
Didn't Sylar kiss Angela on the forehead after escaping from his cell and gallovanting off to save Peter?
He did--one could probably make the argument that either he didn't think of using it on her, or that it can only be done with his hands.
well if peter's power are gone there is really no reason for him to be on the show he is my fav character to but there is no way they can take him off he is one of the most popular chars on the show and most ppl that do like him is because of his powers being the so called swiss army knife of heroes
well if peter's power are gone there is really no reason for him to be on the show
There...are characters in the show that don't have powers, you know. Granted, the only one who actually does stuff is Noah, but still.
Apparently Africa is the new place to go when we don't know what to do with your storyline.
Actually, if my hunch is correct, Africa and the pre-cog painter who's name I don't remember is probably who organizes the "real" heroes of this volume against the real villians--both the Company and Pinehearst.
As for your questions with the formula, Arthur did say to Mohinder that they didn't have a successful test with it, so he's asking Mohinder to basically combine the two to see if it works. My guess is that Arthur isn't wholely telling the truth--my guess is that the formula Pinehearst has doesn't give people abilities, but controls people who have the synthetic abilities.
so if he does get his powers back does anyone think he will get EM back but just have to start over with the power copying thing
that guy with the power to open small blackholes was pretty powerful i kno he's gone now but if sylar got his power or peter they wud have became to powerful that guy is one of the few people who could defeat a group of super powered guys with little effort
What I'd like to know is how Arthur came to be lying in that bed for 2 years after supposedly having been dead. Who "saved" and then preserved him until the time that Adam could be found to give ailing Arthur his life back.
What I wanna know is who helped Arthur with his staged death (if that's what it was) and who preserved him for the previous year (or was it two) until the time when Adam could be summoned in order for Arthur to steal his life and get his butt outta bed. Who was running Pinehurst? Why was Arthur bedridden?
I have to wonder if Maury is really dead or if he just got in Daphne's head to provide her with suitable motivation.
On another note, I noticed that 2 of the main writers for the show got fired recently, so I wonder if the rest of the season will take a different course from what we've seen so far?
I'm not liking the fact that we have to wait to see how everybody became heroes. It felt really strange not watching it last night.
I guess they decided more people would be interested in watching the SNL special. I haven't watched SNL since the early 90s, so they didn't get to count me among last night's viewers.
You got that right! Nobody asked me and I don't like SNL. Just because Tina Fey did such a spot on imitation of you-know-who and everybody went crazy, I guess they think they'll give America another chance to see it.
I'D RATHER WATCH HEROES!
LOL. I know what you mean - I usually only do that on the weekend, but I never have enough time to watch everything I recorded.
Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, I have 2 DVRs, one in the living room and the other in the master bedroom. Catching up on everything that my wife and I have recorded is just about impossible. We have some shows that we watch together and others that are just for one of us. The best catch-up time seems to be while the other spouse is gone on a business trip for a few days. At least then whoever is at home can get through some of the recordings that aren't for both of us.
