The American Idol judges finally did it. They pulled out the save card and they used it. The good news is that Matt Giraud is staying for another week. The bad news is two contestants get eliminated next week.
I didn't expect to be so emotional as Matt sang for his life. But as I listened to what I thought was a much better version of "Have you Ever Really Loved a Woman?" than what we heard on Tuesday, I found myself hoping against hope that the judges would pull out their trump card.
I was not surprised to find Matt in the Bottom Three, but I thought it would be one of his fellow bottom dwellers - Lil Round or Anoop Desai - who would be sent home. Deservedly so, Anoop was saved right away. But I was shocked to find Lil safe.
The competition will be extra rough next week when the Top 7 face off again, because two heads will be on the chopping block.
But if anyone has any doubt that there is life after Idol even if you aren't then winner than they need to look no further than this week's guest performer and Season 3 finalist Jennifer Hudson. The Oscar and Grammy winner returned to the Idol stage to sing "If This Isn't Love."
I didn't watch Idol back when Jennifer was on the show, but I can see why she's been so successful. I thought the song was beautiful.
Also guest performing was Miley Cyrus, the star of the Hannah Montana: The Movie. Now that is one composed 16-year old. And I have to say she looked and sounded beautiful tonight. My daughter will be very disappointed she missed this performance because she really likes "The Climb." We already own the soundtrack and listen to it daily.
It's been a long time since I've enjoyed an opening number on Idol. Usually I'm a fan of them, but since they've been lip syncing them I've lost interest. Until tonight. The group version of "Maniac" from the movie Flashdance had a lot of energy. And I enjoyed seeing the judges get into it as well. Or it could just be that I enjoyed the flashback to '80s.
On the other hand, Ford Video to "Freeze Frame" was predictable. They do this contestants-on-the-magazine-cover thing every year. I think the Ford video people are running out of ideas.
And it was only fitting given this week's theme that the Top 7 got to go to a movie premiere on Tuesday. They saw the premiere of 17 Again, which opens this weekend and stars teen idol Zac Efron.
Next week the theme is Disco. Get out your bell bottoms and platform shoes.

Lil and who else?
Lil and Anoop, or Lil and Matt
No chance at all, but that's just my opinion! She should have gone LONG ago.
Lil, and Anoop should be the ones to go. Matt is more talented than either of them. The judges did the right thing. Their "save choice" was giving them too much power over the outcome. Now that option is no longer on the table.
If Lil picks the right disco song, she will stay our of tehbottom 3. Someone mentioned Donna Summer earlier, and I think it is exactly what she should do.
As much as I love Danny, disco could be his last hurrah. I can't picture him "Shakin' His Booty."
I thought it was somewhat of a waste. Matt is not good enough to win this thing. I think by now, many believe it will be Danny or Adam. The girls really stink. Anoop and Matt are mediocre, at best. It's a 3-man race....Danny, Kris and Adam.
I agree!
I was kind of peeved that simon told Matt he had no chance of winning and then saved him. Isn't the whole point of the save card to wait until someone that had been doing great suddenly gets voted off? For example, Adam or Danny, who have never been in the bottom three...
I agree, but they only had one more week of 'save card eligibility' left. Neither of those guys is gonna be in need of saving next week.
Is it one more week, or two? I'm confused about that. Either way, the whole point, I thought, was to save someone who was "shockingly" voted off. With Matt having been in the bottom 3 at least twice, it wasn't "shocking" at all.
It would be ironic if he were given the boot next week, after all!
I think he will be. He's right there with Lil in terms of falling short.
Anoop isn't spectacular, but he consistently comes across as being a little better than you think he's gonna be where as Matt reliably falls short.
Kris is really forgettable. I can never tell him and Matt apart. They're both really bland. I think it'll come down to Allison, Gokey & Adam. Like Daughtry, it might be dodging a bullet by NOT winning American Idol so you can do your own thing.
I completely disagree with you that Kris is forgettable. I don't have to fight the urge to fast forward thru Kris's performance like I do with Matt.
I think with Kris, as with Adam, you either love him or don't.
I don't think Kris, Danny, or Adam have to worry about being voted off. they are the final 3. Although I would love to see Adam win it, i won't be upset if it is Danny or Kris. In my opinion the final placings are:
1)Adam
2)Kris
3)Danny
4)Alison
5)Matt
6)Lil
7)Anoop
I wouldn't really argue against that placement, though for me I could see the Kris, Danny, Alison group end in any permutation of those three. It will really depend on their specific performances those final weeks. But I definitely think Anoop and Lil should go next week, then Matt the week after (gaining two more weeks thanks to the save) and finally Adam winning it all.
I hope you're right, but I believe you have Kris and Danny reversed.
Kris is the pretty one. He has the votes of the young girls and they vote multiple times, so don't count him out in the finale.
Some thoughts
Wow. I did not expect them to use the save on Matt. Or Lil. I tend to think it was wasted, given Simon's comments. I agree that I don't think he has a chance of winning.
Somehow, I didn't care for Jennifer Hudson's song. But she sure looked gorgeous!
Disco? This WILL be interesting.
BTW, I checked to see if Danny was wearing his wedding ring, and he was. He also didn't annoy me quite as much tonight, for some reason.
Also didn't care for the group number.
Maybe it's just an off night for moi....
So, Adam Hobson, I find myself agreeing with you on most everything. But either I wasn't paying attention, or it didn't impress me much....but I don't recall Danny's solo. I'll go back and relisten.
Maybe I'm grasping at straws with Danny. I'm just trying to figure out why he's so damn popular. It really can't be just the wife thing ... right?
I can't figure it out either. He seems like a "nice" guy, but that doesn't necessarily translate to great voice. I think the sympathy votes are there. I liked him at first, but he wore off pretty fast. Good voice, not great. Good performances, not great.
I want to watch someone who wows me. Who gets me singing/dancing. Someone I can't wait to see each week. Danny ain't that person.
Maybe someone will help us out here.
I look for "chill moments". When a performance gives me goosebumps, it's got my vote. So far for this season the only two performances that qualified were Adam's "Mad World" and "Tracks of My Tears", though his "Ring of Fire" was close.
There were many more chill moments last season. I got them a few times from David Cook with his "Hello", "Elanor Rigby", "Billie Jean", "The Music of the Night" (that was more the song than him), and "The World I know". Jason Castro had a couple of chill moments with "Hallelujah" and "Over the Rainbow", Brook White had a chill moment with "Let it Be" and just missed one with "Jolene". Hell, even Chikezie had a chill moment with "She's a Woman", which I still hold as my favorite performance of all of last season.
Coming out of Hollywood, Danny was my favorite. I have to wonder now how much of that had to do with his backstory. I admit it played a role, but I also think that he has been pretty dull since the finals. IMO, he's never bad and he's never fantastic - he does a good job with everything, but not an outstanding job with anything. I think what bothers me the most about him is the sameness of his performances. He doesn't seem to be taking any chances, and I am baffled as to why the judges have not taken him to task for that. Usually they are all over people for "playing it safe" but not a word to Danny, who I think has been playing it very safe.
As far as the "chill" moments, I think Adam is far in the lead with those this season. I didn't pay much attention to him during the auditions and Hollywood week, but when he came out and sand "Satisfaction" I was blown away. I won't say that he blows me away every week - I wasn't crazy about "Ring of Fire" for one thing - but he brings something to his performances that the others just don't.
Adam is perhaps the opposite of Danny in that the word "safe" does not seem to be in his vocabulary. I'm not going to use the whole "making it your own" mantra, but Adam definitely steps out of the box - whether that is a good thing or not is debatable. He is not a coaster and I feel like Danny is a coaster. He's doing fine with what he is doing now so why chance it? I get the sense that chancing it is what makes it fun for Adam.
Danny: Ditto, bland, bland, bland. No excitement. No risk. I could be listening to Muzak. (Do they even HAVE that anymore????)
Adam: Ditto. Although, I WAS "crazy about" Ring of Fire. He's just exciting to watch. And I find myself paying attention to every note, every phrase. He changes it just a little in places to make it different. I like that.
The thing I like about Danny is he is a good singer and not full of himself. He comes across genuine, sincere, respectful and classy. These are the same reasons I like Michael Sarver. Danny and Michael are the types of guys a gal would want to be good friends with.
Maybe. I'm not 100% convinced about his sincerity. Sometimes it seems a bit phony to me. And while those you named might make great friends, I'm more interested in who is the most entertaining. Who takes my breath away. Who surprises me. Who wows me. Who makes me say: Holy COW!!!! That was GREAT! (or something close to that, anyway!)
They are nice, but tend to be boring after a while. I wouldn't want to be on a date with someone who just sat and smiled; I would want to be with someone who could surprise me, was fun to be around, and who was creative with their talent, and who could challenge me to keep up with them!
It's like when I was younger (MUCH younger) and hitting the dance scene; I wanted to dance with guys who said: Come on! Let's get out there before it's crowded!
They were the most fun.
Instead of those who said: No, no! Let's wait until there are more PEOPLE out there!
What for?
Maybe that's the exhibitionist in me....? I doan know.
I'm probably not explaining this very well, but I hope you get my drift. I'm sure they are very nice people who would make good friends. But I want more than that in this competition.
sfs, I don't know. Constantly exploiting his dead wife to win a singing competition seems to me to be the exact opposite of genuine, sincere, respectful and classy.
I haven't heard him mention his wife in weeks. They were a very young couple. Her death was "unexpected". Why wouldn't he be genuinely affected by it? Why is it "unclassy" for him to acknowlege his love for her?
Well it's one thing to be affected by it, that's natural. It's another thing to keep selecting songs like "Endless Love". That's the biggest *wink wink* in the world and rather exploitative.
A Celine Dion title comes to mind, Mr. Hobson. "Have You Ever Been in Love?"
Ever lost one?
If it is it's at least as believable as any act Adam does.
David, I don't think you get it. Adam's thing isn't being genuine, sincere, respectful or classy. His thing is being an act.
Well, you're right I guess then, I don't get it.
I believe that Adams tactics are to woo the judges and the audience on his ability to perform on stage and that part takes away mistakes in the vocals. Where Kris and matt, and Allison just sing their hearts out. Also Danny.
I certainly acknowlege that Adam is a magnificent performer. He puts on a hell of a show. But in so doing, I've seen no real evidence of a soul, at least not one that I recognize. Little 16 year old Allison has shown more depth as a person. Lil has more 'real-ness', too bad she can't perform!
I see Adam as 'Disney-style animatronics'. Magnificently, reliably done, and worth watching once, but COMPLETELY surface.
Adam Hobson on Adam being an act: Absolutely! And what an act it IS, too. But I have been able to see a different side to him during the chit-chatty thing with Ryan. To me it's like: This is who I am, it's what I love doing. Hope you like it, but if you don't....well, you can always listen to someone else.
He does not appear to be "cocky" or "overconfident" to me. I find him quite likeable, actually. Especially when he's giving credit to the band - and his interaction with them and the backup singers. He seems to genuinely want to include others in on his "act." (The band really seemed to enjoy his performance of Born to Be Wild.)
He is a performer. Sincerity and genuiness..... ? I'll take his "act" over smarminess any day. As I have posted several times before, I want to be entertained. I don't want to be sung to sleep.
Personally, I can't get enough of his performances. And, yes, I would buy his CDs. I listen to each note he sings, waiting for him to falter or disappoint...so far, hasn't happened. I've never been as excited or entertained by a contestant before. Ever. And I was a pretty avid Clay fan. But even HE pales in comparison...for me, anyway.
Erm for people that are attacking matt, matt is a far more versitile singer than kris , kris is boring and average, hes there because of his looks, matt is soulful and there is a place for someone like him in the industry , unlike danny who is just a good singer, he has no place in the music industry , adam obviously does as hes different, american idol is there to find someone who is an idol someone who fits in with the music stars, danny and kris would not stand a chance and would end up like taylor hicks
Well, there's an opinion.
I'm surprised Lil didn't home last night but I'm even more surprised the judges used the Save on Matt. Simon even said he can't win the competition (and I agree) so why use it on him? It made no sense at all.
Maybe the other 3 judges said yes...if there are 3 to 1 against Simon, do they win out? I think if there are 2 and 2, Simon gets to be the tiebreaker.
Not sure, though.
They've said from the beginning with the save that it has to be unanimous, which means Simon could have held out and Matt would not have been saved. I think it probably had more to do with time running out for them to use the save, and them being pretty sure that Adam, Allison and Danny will escape next week. My guess is that those were the three they have had in mind for saving from the beginning, just based on the comments they have made to them over the season.
At this point - although anything can happen - it's probably a decent bet that Adam, Allison and Danny will be safe next week. If the past is any indication, Allison would be the only one in danger of getting voted off, as she is the only one of the three to show up in the bottom three at all. Although I think Allison will have an easier time with disco than Danny, so who knows?
I think a lot of it had to do with the pressure on Simon to say yes - the crowd chanting, the other judges pleading, Ryan saying they were out of time. Think of what an a-hole he would have looked like if he was the killjoy last night. I wasn't a huge Matt fan and he's not in my pick for the top 3, but it made me happy when he said Matt was saved (in that moment). Looking back I don't know if it should have been used for Matt but I think he has a good chance of escaping elimination next week - Anoop and Lil need to go.
If anything, I would expect Simon to not use the save just to show that he will not give in to screaming masses. I suspect if he seriously thought one of his favorites would be in jeopardy next week, he wouldn't have given the okay.
The save was a complete waste in my opinion. I thought that the whole idea was to salvage someone who the judges thought had a shot of winning the show and ended up voted out due to voters missing the boat. This was not the case. Matt is a nice guy and a decent but not great singer. He's been skirting the bottom for some time now and Simon was right - he doesn't have a chance of winning this competition. The one thing I'm glad about is that the save, which I never thought should have been introduced, is now off the table. There are very few performers on this show that I think warrent a second chance after elimination and none of those who were in the bottom three this week fit that bill.
Disco next week, huh? That's going to be rough on most of them. The only one I think will really do well is Adam because it's a genre that demands the theatrical flamboyancy that we've seen out of Adam, and we've seen him pull off disco already. I see many trainwreaks in our future.
Next week WILL be interesting. Yes, Adam will probably do fine. Lil COULD pull it off if she picks the right song. In my opinion, there's just no way Anoop, Matt or Danny or Kris can do disco. And Allison, hmmmm. I'm on the fence. I think next week will be a train wreck!
The only way it would have been useful is if one of the "favorites" to win was given the ax prematurely. Personally, given the way that it has played out, I wish the judges would have used it to save Alexis. I think she is far better than many who outlasted her and, if she hit her stride, another who had the potential to be one of the last standing.
Hear! Hear! I keep thinking they should have saved Alexis. I still miss her.
Did you notice that when AI plugs their website, it's all pictures of Alexis they show? Irony? Some sort of surprise awaiting?
Anyway, I agree. To me, she was the best of the women.
it's all pictures of Alexis they show? Irony? Some sort of surprise awaiting?
I am trying to remember.....didn't they surprise us one year and brought someone back? My mind could be playing tricks on me.....
Can't really say, as I've only been watching for a couple of seasons. I should clarify my statement, though: when AI plugs their website via TV commercial on Fox. (Of course, all the TiVo users probably never saw it in the first place.)
On bringing someone back: I believe there was someone brought back a few seasons ago after a contestant was unceremoniously booted off (the Paula midnight room visits thing, maybe?) Other than that, I haven't seen it done.
And, my memory COULD be faulty on that one.
P.S. Uncermoniously booted off by the producers, not the fans/voting process, that is.
The thing to remember about the save is that they had to use it before it got down to the final 5, and you had to know they were going to use it just for the gimmick. This was probably their last shot to sneak it in there.
It was so a gimmick. Ryan trumped it up sooooo much last night that I knew they were going to use it. It was as if he new they were going to so he tried to pile on the suspense.
Matt's got a great deal of talent, but he hasn't been as fortunate as Adam or Allison at finding that exact sound that defines him as an artist. It's a little tough for him, because I think he would like to me more of a pop-rock artist, but his strengths lie in the jazz-blues-pop area instead. That's a tougher row to hoe, because Americans don't seem to groove into jazz as much as they should considering that jazz is an American music form. But I do take heart from the music lately being more eclectic (not nearly so much as during the 80s, but more then it's been since), and that might open some opportunities for Matt even if an Idol win is not in the cards. His studio recordings have been absolutely gorgeous.
They're ALL talented! They just delayed the inevitable.
I really thought they would save the "Save" until next week, but the decision may have already been made before the showed aired. I think they were not shocked to see who was in the bottom three.....
I honestly hope Danny nor Adam win, I had rather it be Kris...Adam is over the top and Danny, well to me he is predictable.
Adam is a phenome. Whether he wins this contest or not his career - like Daughtry's - will take off from the exposure. I could see him on Broadway doing a remake of the Rocky Horror Picture Show or being the front man in a Queen-type band.
I hope they all do well.
I just heard Josh Gracin (remember him?), the soldier, singing a country hit on Music Choice. I'm always happy to hear about AI alums having success.

I do remember Josh Gracin.......I also liked him very much, didn't think that he would win, but I am like you I always like to hear about the former American Idol contestants doing well.....I believe that Jennifer has a good voice, she sang and acted, IMO, really well in "dream girls". So I think if Lil Rounds doesn't make it any further she can look and see what Jennifer has done in her career and didn't win Idol. I also remember Taylor Hicks and I didn't want him to win, but he did, and I hope he has a good career doing what he loves to do....
Adam is a phenome. Whether he wins this contest or not his career
Absolutely no doubt. He doesn't need to win this. He could walk away NOW - walk away - and still be a huge star. I just don't like his style as much as some others but he's incredibly good at what he does!
I also remember Taylor Hicks and I didn't want him to win, but he did, and I hope he has a good career doing what he loves to do....
Taylor Hicks is staring in the musical GREASE now playing in Portland, Oregon.
Disco will be hard for Allison next week. Her voice is more rough and tumble then dance.
Matt might do okay as will Kris. Lil will probably skate thru. Don't know about Anoop.
Can't picture Danny doing The Hustle.
I like Miley Cyrus! I think she has a nice voice.
Jennifer Hudson does nothing for me. I close my eyes and hear every other black singer. There's nothing about her that stands out.
And aren't we all just sitting on the edge of our seats waiting to see what Adam dishes up? I know I am!
Miley is over rated...
Jennifer Hudson is awesome... I don't know who you have been listening to, but by your criticism, it can not be good.
If Jennifer does nothing for you, I suggest you rent "Dreamgirls" and do your eye-closing the moment she starts "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going." You can hear every ounce of her character's anger and agony in the way she sings that song.
Then again, maybe that just makes her a good actress rather than a good singer.
The songs have to be disco songs, but the contestants don't have to sing them all disco-y. I think the true contenders won't have any problem conforming that genre to their own personal styles.
I close my eyes and hear every other black singer.
I want to say something about this, but I'm goint to bite my tongue and assume that I'm reading it the wrong way.
Rachael... could not bite my tounge... and as far as I am concerned there is no good way to read that.
Quite frankly I heard Miley before... 15 years ago, I believe his hit was "I have an ache breaky heart"
Robin - you probably think all black people look alike too. And that they all know each other. Just kidding, but it would be great if you just commented on her performance and not her race. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume what you really meant to say was "R&B singer."
Regarding Jennifer Hudson; I just think she sounds like Beyonce, Fantasia, Destiny's Child, etc........and all the other black singers on Idol. It wasn't meant to be disrepectful, just that she doesn't sound any different than any others. As a singer, she just doesn't do anything for me. Much the same way Jewel, Katy Perry, Amy Winehouse, etc doesn't do anything for me.
To a discerning ear, Robin, Jennifer Hudson has a unique voice. Beyonce is very versatile, and no-one has a voice like Fantasia! That is OK that R&B/Soul is not your genre. Each artist needs to be recognized and appreciated for their individual talent.
Robin - you probably think all black people look alike too. And that they all know each other. I'm being facetious, but it would be great if you commented on Jennifer Hudson's performance and not her race. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume what you meant to say was "every other R&B singer." BTW with the exception of Beyonce and Destiny's Child (who are one and the same since Beyonce was lead vocalist of that group), none of the artists you mentioned sound ANYTHING alike.
Being from Kalamazoo, I can tell you that Matt in-person is a remarkable talent and well worth the save. He has been a dualing piano player at the Monaco Bay night club for quite awhile and never disappoints, he has grown during the competition and I think that the best is yet to come!
I am happy about Matt's save. He is not going to be #1. I think Adam will win, he is very talented. I won't be buying his CDs. I don't know what people hear in Danny. I think Kris is adorable, I probably would not buy his CDs either. The person taking the hit this year was Alexis Grace. How Megan and Lil stayed on so long is beyond me. Allison is very talented also. I will buy Alexis's, Matt's and probably Anoop's CDs if Anoop sings slow songs. Adam said it right--you either like it or you don't--thats what music is!! By the way, everyone should listen to Simon's Susan from Scotland. She is 47 years old and awesome. I cried. So long Adam---HELLO SUSAN!!!!!!!!!
my thoughts...
MATT- has probably been the most uneven performer this season, in that he's had INCREDIBLE weeks where everything came together, and weeks where vocally he fell apart. For some reason, his vocals seem to falter when he's not behind the piano. I do think he's been criminally underrated, and honestly, if the save needed to be used on either him or Lil, it was used on the right person. I'm rooting for the man, but he MUST bring his A+++++ game this coming week.
LIL- I'm sorry, but it's time to go. Does she have a voice? Yes, but unfortunately she also has SEVERE problems controlling her breathing and her tone. I can hear her gasping for air at times, struggling through most songs until she gets to the power note (which still sounds like she barely has control of it). I was hoping Kara (being an actual singer) might have addressed this, but instead we've been hearing the whole "wrong song choice" foolishness. I'm terrified she's going to do something like "Don't Leave Me This Way" next week and completely fall apart.
ANOOP- poor kid can't catch a break. No, I don't think he's going to win, but he's got talent, and it must be hard on the morale to be giving your best, getting raves from judges, and still landing in the bottom 3. I'm worried about him on disco night. And he really needs a new hairstyle- he's starting to have this TV anchorman/Ken doll helmet look going.
ALISON- I like her, I really do. Really can't think of anything else to say, except her outfits sometimes look like she got into Mommy's closet and went nuts. I think her chances of winning are remote, but I got a thing for any girl with a rasp. Maybe they'll let her do "Bette Davis Eyes" next week. Does that qualify as disco?
DANNY- I don't understand the big deal about Danny. The dude can sing, but he's really not all THAT amazing. At times he sounds a bit like Taylor Hicks...enough said. BUT...he did sound good last night.
this brings me to the two who I think are the superior talents, Kris and Adam.
KRIS- c'mon, how can you not love this kid? Shockingly handsome, unceasingly nice and cheery, a multi-intstrumentalist and a great singer who can imbue FEELING into a song. I think the judges and a big part of the online crowd have neglected to recognize how extraordinary this kid really is. He hasn't had a 'bad' night yet. I still think he can win this.
ADAM- Adam and Kris are near-polar opposites. Understated, meet bombastic. Is Adam self-indulgent at times? Of course he is! With a voice like that, a look like that and a background in 'the theatah', would you expect anything less? I LOVED his take on "Ring of Fire"- even knowing he didn't originate the exotic slant on the song- but knew he'd get criticized for it. Regardless if you like him or hate him, it cannot be denied that Adam has probably the widest, most flexible vocal range of any man who's ever been on this show. Not only that, he can also CONTROL his vocals, even when they're in the stratosphere (yes, Lil...I'm looking at you). It'll probably stick in Simon's craw, but I think he's got this...we'll see...
that's my 25 cents...

What about a Bonnie Tyler song for Allison.
I keep thinking of Donna Summer and the I love to love you song for Lil. I just can't see her pulling it off.
Love Danny. Hope he wins the whole thing. I think Kris is so overrated. He is just ok to me. Lil definitely needs to go. Would not be upset if Adam or Allison wins, both enormously talented. The best idol contestants to me ever, ( no comparisons as far as voice) are David Archaletta, Melinda Doolittle, Alliison and Adam.
Are you kidding? This save was totally wasted on Matt. He wasn't the worst tonight, but this new gimmick (er, I mean, save) should have been used later on someone with a legitimate shot at winning, not at giving a mediocre performer a free pass.
Wait, did the author and I watch the same Miley Cyrus performance? The singing was nasal the entire way through--I would love to hear Simon's thoughts on her singing. The lyrics were lame. Her dress WAS beautiful, but head banging during a country song is not only painfull incompatible, it looked awful with her evening wear. I bet each of the 7 Idols (and probably a lot of the at-home and in-theater audience) wished that they were the cute daughter of a washed-up-connected-country-star so they could have a huge career, too. And they'd probably do it better.

I do like Miley for who she is especially mainly popular with the tweens. I know she is growing up and they are trying to further her career, don't know she can make it or not, with her money and wise investing (???) she may never be broke...but getting back to talent, I don't think she is all that great, but I do understand the fascination that the kids have with her and I also agree with the statement that I copied (above) I thought the same thing, she has a lot of changing to do if she wants to go country and also wants to grow up...
I like the lyrics to the song. I believe the entire problem with her and that song, that performance is that she is trying to be too grown up. The lyrics are way too old for her, the look was too old for her, her vocals are mature enough - but her voice isn't. I don't know if you'll get my last statement, I'm having a hard time describing what I hear. Her voice sounds like a 12-year-old, but her vocals sound very mature. Does that make any sense?!?!?
The headbanging cracked me up. Her voice did sound nasaly to me but I was thinking the sound might have been for the "country" effect. (So I'm not a country music fan!)
I think Simon is totally bored by American Idol and would not be surprised if he leaves the show after this year. I also think the only performances he looks forward to are Adam's. Adam seems to make Simon laugh.
I agree, but I also think he gets a kick out of Allison. He just looks like he'd rather die than listen to most of the rest of the show.
I honesty believe that Simon did not want to use the save card, and it is going to bite them this coming week. All they need is for one of the top 3 to be voted off and they will kick themselves in the tookas. You by now should know who the top 3 are and who the winner of American Idol is going to be. If not...then your an idiot. I was always in hopes that this show was not fixed..but alas it is. They showed that several weeks ago. Rumor has it one judge needs to go..Simon's contract is up in a year but they want to slim down to 3 before then. If Paula Abdul's dresses get any shorter or more revealing she is going to have to wear extra make-up. They are not appriopriate for a "Family" program.

I musta missed something...
My critique:
Anoop - I like him, but he's boring at times. Anoop's best performances are on ballads. You can tell that he's not used to criticism.
Matt - There are times that he's very good, but when he's bad...he's really bad. Last night was worse than the performance night. I see a lack of confidence because he has been in the bottom more than once.
Lil - I was never on the Lil bandwagon. I just don't think she can sing all that well. When she did the Mary J Blige song that all the judges raved about, I though it was terrible. Lil is a copycat singer with a big, loud voice that she doesn't know how to use. It works in church with a choir but not when you have sing various genres in a competition. Lil could benefit from vocal coaching because she needs help in using her voice. I've been disappointed in all of her peformances.
Kris - Kris is very good and is a sleeper in the competition. My downside with Kris is that he is a one song type of singer. He's good on the ballands; not so much on the uptempo songs. Disco could be hard for him similar to country being hard for Adam.
Danny - Taylor Hicks in nicer packaging is what Danny represents. With the exception of PYT, it seems like every song is tribute to his late wife. I can see them trying to package him as the new Michael McDonald, but it doesn't work for me. Several of his songs have been off-key and he hasn't been called on it. I though Stand By Me was a trainwreck.
Allison - This chick has potential but being as young as she is, its too easy to pick the wrong song. Last weeks, Bonnie Raitt song was a good example. She needs to pick a song that is fun and all about dancing for disco night. I didn't think Tuesday's performance was one of her best and judges didn't talk about the performance. I'm guessing it's because they've started the Idol pimp mobile for her inclusion as one of the final two.
Adam - I don't where to start when it comes to him. He is so much better than any of the others. The professional background really comes through on his performances. The way he works the stage, especially on Tuesday was phenomenal. Adam treats every performance like an audition and goes full out on stage. He leaves nothing behind and that's what I like to see. I love a good ballad (Tracks of my Tears, Mad World), but when you can get on that stage and completely own like he does, then you deserve to win. Adam also displays a versatility that the others don't have; that keeps the anticipation level high for his performance. The downside is that it makes everyone else appear even weaker.
I can't wait for disco!!
Absolutely LOVED Adam's interaction with the band and the backup singers! You could tell they were lovin' it, too!
For me, he's a complete performer. Not "just" a singer. Someone here nailed it when they said he "leaves nothing behind." He brings it ALL to his performance. Sink or swim. He is the only reason I'm still watching with any interest this season.
He's so far out of the league of the others. There's Adam, and then there's everybody else., bringing up the rear.
While I like Matt, he was in my personal bottom three this week. I would not have used the Judge's Save on him as I agree with Simon that he has NO chance of winning the competition. I would have saved it for next week just in case one of the big three (Adam, Allison, and Danny, does poorly on Disco Week and gets the boot. Let's hope that does not happen.
